Jeevitha means "Girl full of life". That was how she was till she caught the chill from Chennai rains. Soon after delivery her parents had to shift their residence from a tin house to a thatched one without brick walls. Being not even a month old, Jeevitha, could not weather the cold climate. She soon started having breathing problems. Parents (Palani and Deepa) took her initially to the Saidapet Government Hospital. She was later transfered to the Egmore Children's hospital on 13th November, 2009. Treatment at the hospital was inadequate to say the least. Fearing the worst, parents had to shift her to Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospita at Nungambakkam.

She was admitted in the hospital on 14th November, 2009. Jeevitha has been detected with Pneumonia and has been put on ventilator. Palani, her father, works in a security firm (Bombay Intelligence Security Limited) as a security guard earning Rs. 4,000 per month. Deepa is a housewife and this meagre amount is just about enough to take care of their daily expenses. All of their savings were spent on the delivery of Jeevitha.

They managed to take care of the initial expense of about Rs. 8,000 (Rs. 5,000 towards hospital expense the rest were for purchase of medicines). As Jeevitha has been kept in the Intensive care unit on a ventilator, the expenses are expected to mount. Unable to bear the cost, they were willing to shift the child to another government hospital - Voluntary Health Services. However upon enquiry it was found that  VHS did not have ventilator facility without which Jeevitha will not survive. Staying at Child Trust Hospital is thus a Hobson's choice for the family.

They would require approximately Rs. 80,000 for Jeevitha's treatment. Ekam Foundation has stepped in to help them. But they too require support from individuals like you to help Jeevitha live up to her name
